What's Your Love Story? Can you Help with Fab Channel 4 Programme?

Date:
9th September 2011

WHAT’S YOUR LOVE STORY?

The BAFTA award-winning team at The Garden Productions is making an exciting new documentary series for Channel 4 about LOVE & RELATIONSHIPS.

Are you looking for love?  Has finding the perfect partner become a priority for you?

We would like to speak to people in their mid-20s to mid-30s who are actively looking to settle down with someone and can tell us about their experiences of trying to find a partner. Perhaps you are part of a close-knit group of friends with differing views and experiences?

Expecting your first baby?  Excited about becoming a family of three?

We would like to speak to couples who are due to have their first child between September 2011 and January 2012 about their views on love as they prepare for parenthood.

Are you moving in together?  Excited about the move but unsure about losing your independence?

We are looking to talk to couples who are planning to move in together for the first time this autumn/winter. Perhaps you are unsure about making this kind of commitment? Is this a big decision for you and your partner to make? We are keen to hear your views in love and the prospect of living together.

Are you part of a stepfamily? Have you both brought children together from previous relationships?

We would like to speak to couples who have found love for a second time and can tell us about their experiences of joining two families together.

To find out more, please email love@thegardenproductions.tv  or call the team on 0203 465 9060. Calling does not oblige you to take part in the series.

Volunteer Marketing Advisers wanted

Volunteer Marketing Advisers wanted

Date:
20th June 2011

Business in the Arts:North West is a small charity which exists to bring business skills and experience to the arts in ways that are beneficial both to business and to the arts.  We aim to help arts and creative organisations improve their business operations at the same time as providing stimulating and challenging development opportunities for business people.

We are keen to recruit volunteer marketing advisers for our Skills Bank, a project-based programme through which business managers and professionals provide guidance to cultural managers, working towards specific objectives and transferring skills along the way.  Examples of current opportunities are:

  •  A textile artist based in Lancaster who wants to develop a brand and marketing tools in order to establish herself as a business.
  • A circus company in Cheshire who provide free shows to the community and donate profits to charity – looking for help with a review of marketing and press plans.
  • A small selling gallery in Stockport who need to raise their profile and get more people through the door to be sustainable.

The programme requires a commitment of just a few hours per month, and gives you the chance to get out of your comfort zone and try out your skills in a new and interesting environment.  For CIM members, CPD points can be earned towards your Chartered Marketer status.

Non-marketeers are also welcome, as we have a range of opportunities for people with business skills through both the Skills Bank and the Better Board Bank, which matches appropriately skilled people on to the boards of cultural organisations.

Supporting the Childrens Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT)

Supporting the Childrens Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT)

Date:
7th June 2011

The Childrens Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT) in Knutsford is one of 2 Charities TT Cheshire have decided to support (the other being Macmillan Cancer Support for East Cheshire)

The concept of The Children's Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT) was conceived in 1985 by a small group of volunteers that included our former Founder Patron, Tim Grundy.  Based around a beautiful 17th century farmhouse, in the heart of Cheshire countryside, the Charity offers free adventure breaks and activities to children who are disadvantaged by illness, disability and poverty, from all over the Northwest.

There are so many ways in which we (as a group) and as individuals can help support this amazing regional charity.
Here are just some that we think might be of interest to you ladies:

  • Hard cash (obviously!!) - CAFT costs in excess of £800,000 pa to run and they rely totally on donations / external fundraising.
  • Soft Toys- e.g. Soft  toys (new or used) -each child gets a soft toy on their bed when they arrive at the farm which they get to take home with them afterwards. The Farm hosts  3000 children each year so that is ALOT of teddys !!!
  • Christmas Gifts -  The Farmholds Christmas Parties every day for 5 weeks over Nov / Dec and each child gets a bag of gifts to take home with them For some children this is their last Christmas (due to illness) or others this will be their only Christmas as they come from such poor backgrounds. The Farm are always after donations for gifts either as cash (so they can buy specific items for each child depending on ability / age etc,,,,) or toy donations (new) - items such as selection boxes are always needed and board games, soft toys or toy shop vouchers. (no electrical items or sweets)
  • 2nd hand donations - The Farm has a few communal areas and TV rooms etc... plus a charity shop in Knutsford and are always grateful for 2nd hand donations of unwanted toys / games / dvd's / clothes.
  • Other items -  the farm go through LOTS of the following and are always happy to recive any of the following items as donations: bottled water / baked beans / pasta / girls or  boys bedding (new) / paint or crayons for  the art room / pictures or posters for on walls / merchandise e.g. key rings etc...
  • Last but no means least 'Volunteers': The Farm needs volunteers for all sorts of things, from helping run stalls for events (e.g. tombolla / hook a duck) to packing goodie bags, selling tickets, serving food at the Christmas Parties, wrapping presents, working at the shop, helping with the children, clearing grounds or building new play areas etc... Individuals can volunteer or you can come as a group as part of your business.....great team building with extra 'feel good factor'

The charity also runs a number of events throughout the year that we will be promoting for them they range from charity bike rides across europe to summer open days, ladies days, and Christmas balls etc....

Thirsy Thursday will also run a special annual fundraising event of our own with proceeds going to CAFT & Macmillan.

If you would like to know more about CAFT or get  involved please contact Julie Gray at CAFT on 01565 830053 or email jgray@caft.co.uk or visit www.childrensadventurefarm.org

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK...

"My friends and I recently had a group mum and tot session with our 5 children. Barry and Louise were very professional and really worked hard to put us all at ease in order to capture some natural shots. We didn't want the usual 'formal' posed style photo's, but some that captured our kids playing together with us in a more relaxed way - and the pictures Louise & Barry took were just perfect. The other mums and I would be more than happy to recommend Barry Wood Photography.
Thanks so much for capturing our memories in an innovative way - and for putting up with our 5 little terrors!!"

Free Architecture Consultation for TT Girls in November

Date:
7th November 2010

Looking to improve not move? Need to unlock the potential of your premises?

It makes so much sense in this economic climate to upgrade an existing home or property rather than move. A simple reconfiguration - a small extension, a loft or basement conversion, or a dormer can add that extra space which makes a place more functional. An architect has the skills, knowledge and experience to make the most of your aspirations and vision.

TT member Lisa Raynes has set up Raynes Architecture to do exactly that. “People usually approach me out of necessity; their house is too small; they need bigger reception rooms or more bedrooms or bathrooms. Equally they have aspirations to live or work in a ‘Grand Design’ and that’s where I can use my skills and expertise to help them realise their dreams.”

Lisa has a great pedigree, in housing and refurbishment of listed buildings, and is now changing her focus from the corporate world to the domestic market. Taking advantage of low overheads means that Lisa can concentrate on small jobs that large companies would turn away.

Most importantly, Lisa enjoys working with people. By focusing a little closer to home, Lisa will concentrate her efforts in south Manchester.

Lisa is offering a free consultation to members of Thirsty Thursday in November.

You can contact Lisa on 07989 744 336 lisa@raynesarchitecture.co.uk  or on the website www.raynesarchitecture.co.uk

Fab Reike Offer from Spa Satori

Fab Reike Offer from Spa Satori

Date:
4th November 2010

Our friends at Spa Satori have got a fab offer for us for November on Reki and Reflexology - perfect to get your energies up for the festive season!

Offer below, along with a review of the treatments by TT member Sue Weighall.

Buy one, get one free on Reike nd Reflexology treatments in November
Japanese reiki (ray-key)    30mins £30
Soothing and warming treatment focuses on emotional and mental well-being to boost the immune system, relieving tension and depression. It promotes deep relaxation and self-healing, clarity of thought and 'moving on' from negativity.

reflexology     30mins £30
The feet encompass maps that correspond to every part of your body. This massage applies pressure to the points that will help to heal and rebalance the whole body. This pampering treatment particularly helps with sleep, digestion, conception, PMT, stress and much more.

Check out what Sue thought:
What was I letting myself in for!  So Monday found me venturing into the Northern Quarter to find Spa Satori.  I entered the salon to find a welcoming receptionist and a comfy seat.  My only problem (my own fault as I had left my reading glasses at home) was reading the consultation form in the subdued lighting.  I managed to complete the form, which included my personal details and medical history, by holding it at arms length!

I was the introduced to Angela who took me through to the treatment room.  Subdued lighting with candles.  I was really looking forward to a relaxing treatment, particularly after the week that I had just endured.

Reiki – the first half of the session was Reiki.  You don’t need to take any clothes off for this relaxing treatment.  The bed was comfortable and the blanket kept me warm.  Angela started by putting her hands on my face where she held them for some time.  My body started to relax with the warmth of her hands and she slowly laid her hands on me, moving down my body.  Isn’t it great when you can just relax and forget the stresses of life?  I even fell asleep a couple of times!  All too soon Angela reached my feet marking the end of the Reiki. session  I felt warm and relaxed.

Reflexology – I had had a session of this in the past and it is done by the therapist pressing her fingers over the soles of my feet.  Angela explained that each area on the sole of the foot represented a different area of the body.  And although it seems amazing that it happened when the therapist feels a change in the texture of the foot, it coincided with an area of weakness in my body.

Both treatments were very relaxing and the trials and tribulations of the past week seem more insignificant than they had been before the treatments.  Angela was very caring ensuring that I was comfortable through out.  They were both very relaxing effective treatments.

I would recommend Spa Satori for these treatments without question.

We're doing the Vagina Monologues - Want to get involved?

We're doing the Vagina Monologues - Want to get involved?

Date:
19th October 2010

To celebrate INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY on 8 March 2011 the women of Manchester will join the global effort to stop violence against women and girls by staging a V-Day celebration.  V-Day is the brainchild of an amazing woman Eve Ensler, playwright, activist and author of THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES.  To date Eve and her global V-Day campaign has raised over $70 million to support women worldwide and I have long been a fan of her work.

So, on the evening of 8 March the Birdhouse Fund will join her campaign to stop violence against women and young girls by staging  a performance of The Vagina Monologues with a cast of real, local women at a central location and all the money raised by ticket sales, sponsorship and related activities will be donated to the Birdhouse Fund and distributed to women that are fleeing from abuse or struggling to get their life back on track because of domestic abuse in the Manchester area. 10% will also go into the global V-Day pot.  For more info on V-Day have a look at http://www.vday.org/home

 Sound interesting?......

Think about this….. 1 in 4 women in the UK are likely to experience some form of domestic abuse in their lifetime and how about this comment from a man…

Today there is an undeclared war against women in the UK.  Each year some three million women will  experience violence in one form or another; On average two women die each week at the hands of a partner or an ex-partner. 80, 000 women experience rape or attempted rape. An estimated 1.2 million women experienced stalking in 2003. 4000 trafficked women are in enforced prostitution, locked in dingy flats, drugged, threatened and effectively enslaved. And we should make no mistake about this. These are crimes against women. There are male victims yes, but the truth is that this war is against women because they are women. The figures speak for themselves. In fact they scream. (Trevor Phillips, 2007)

I know the women of Manchester will step up and support this event and I have every confidence the performance will be a sell out and an inspiration, however, despite rumours, I am not SUPERWOMAN and I cannot pull this off single handed so I am asking for your support to make this an evening to remember, one that will launch a dedicated fund for women that will continue to make a difference long after the tears and laughter dies down and we are all safely tucked up in our beds.

 Are you game?

I need cast and crew; creative birds and a production  team, marketers and PR birds, ticket sellers, a social networking queen, a money manager, fund raisers and sponsorship birds, ushers and hosts, runners and networking divas!

I am hosting an information meeting at the home of THE BIRDHOUSE FUND, Community Foundation, Speakers House, Deansgate, Manchester  at 6pm on Thursday 11 November.  This will last 2 hours and give me the opportunity to outline our plans and resource needs in more detail.  I will also be able to share more about  V-Day, Birdhouse plans and your role on our dynamic, can do and fun team!

This is an opportunity to stage a great night out.  If you have not seen The Vagina Monologues it is an mind  blowing experience and a fab platform to generate money to change the  lives of women suffering unimaginable hardships.

This briefing session only has places for 30 women so please let me know fast if you would like to join us and get involved.  If it is over subscribed I will organise a second briefing as soon as possible.

We only have around 4 months to make this happen but hey we are women, we create life, we are pioneers, collaborators, supporters, champions of change, do I need to go on?.....................

Let’s just do it ladies – To  get involved Contact Jane Kenyon at jane@wellheeleddivas.com now!
